Sustained pressure from community groups has saved 25 hectares of stunning, biodiverse native forest in the Dial Range from being clearfell logged. The Greens applaud the conservationists and stakeholders who have fought hard to protect this special forest.

The Greens also congratulate Central Coast councillors, who recognised the passion of their community and moved a motion to halt Forestry Tasmania’s logging plan.

As a result of wide community pressure, the northern Dial Range forest (coupe DL011A) has been removed from Forestry Tasmania’s three-year logging plan. This is great news, but Forestry Tasmania remains intent on logging and burning another coupe further south.

Forestry Tasmania needs to understand the local community care deeply for these special forests, and won’t stop until they are formally protected. The Dial Range is a natural haven in the heart of farmland, critical habitat for rare and endangered species, and a mecca for local bushwalkers, mountain bikers and nature lovers.

The Central Coast community are an inspiration to people across Lutruwita / Tasmania who want to protect their forests from the Liberal Government’s determined policy of logging and burning.

The Greens will continue to push for end to native forest logging to protect our biodiverse forests, climate and the communities that rely on them.
