The Liberals’ move to cut staffing and services in mental health is outrageous and dangerous. This decision must be immediately reversed.
If you talk to any Tasmanian, they’ll be able to tell you stories about the big problems in our health system. We should be seeing more investment in these services, but instead the Liberals are pushing cuts to the health budget and staffing numbers.
The Department of Health’s memo on so-called ‘Vacancy Controls’ makes for disturbing reading. Mental health services are already operating with unsafe staffing levels, and any further cuts are nothing short of dangerous.
Whenever there are cuts to essential public services, there are real consequences for real people. That’s particularly true for an area like mental health, where so many vulnerable people are potentially affected.
Health Minister Guy Barnett must immediately reverse this appalling decision, and rule out any further similar measures
