The Greens stand with the local central north coast community, devastated that the Liberal Government is allowing logging to occur in the Dial Range.
Despite the strong opposition of the Central Coast Council, local businesses, community groups and residents, the heart is currently being ripped out of the Dial Range by Forestry Tasmania.
Logging in the Dial Range right now is destroying the habitat of threatened species, and the spaces the community relies on for recreation and tourism.
This pointless destruction is happening with the say so of Premier Jeremy Rockliff and his Forestry Minister Felix Ellis. They’ve ignored the local community, who’ve pleaded with them to protect their beloved Dial.
Instead, these Liberal Braddon members have both prioritised the interests of a government business that can’t function without taxpayer handouts. It’s especially outrageous, given the Liberals have just invested millions of dollars into tourism infrastructure for the Dial Range, including upgrading the road into the reserve.
Our thoughts are with the community who are fighting to protect the Dial, and will be rightly devastated at this gross destruction. We will continue to stand with them in defence of the Dial Range against the government-sanctioned woodchipping of this beautiful native forest.
