Disability Compliant Housing Needed

Home » Media Releases » Disability Compliant Housing Needed

The Greens welcome the release of disability housing indicators by TasCOSS and Disability Voices Tasmania. It’s a timely reminder that the needs of disabled Tasmanians are not being met in public housing.

With a quarter of applicants on the social housing waitlist having accessibility needs, it’s just not good enough that there is an undersupply of social housing which complies with disability standards.

The housing and cost of living crises are already hard enough for Tasmanians. Having a disability shouldn’t make it harder to find an affordable place to live.

It’s vitally important that the Liberal Government honour their commitment to ensure more housing is made accessible to people living with a disability.

These changes aren’t ‘red tape’. They’re life-changing accessibility and safety improvements for people with disabilities. They must be implemented now.
