The Tasmanian Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report 2025 exposes a government not prepared to act on emissions’ reduction.

Across most sectors of the economy, emissions are either business as usual or rising.

Forests set aside under the Tasmanian Forest Agreement in 2012-13 are doing the heavy lifting, and allowing the Liberals in government to claim net-zero status while doing precisely nothing to reduce emissions from transport, agriculture, waste, energy or industrial processes.

In fact, their push to allow the burning of native forests as biofuel to industries like Goliath Cement is sending Tasmania into reverse.

The numbers don’t lie. The climate is cooking, scientists are sounding the alarm, but it’s business as usual under the Liberals.

At the same time, adaptation efforts are lagging, and there’s almost zero community engagement on how to stay safe as weather extremes intensity and become more frequent.

They can and must do better. Young Tasmanians in particular deserve a safe climate future.
