The Tasmanian Greens acknowledge the anxiety and pain Tasmania’s Nepalese community are experiencing as a result of the Nepal-Tibet tragedy. The devastating floods have caused loss of life and enormous destruction, and we offer our heartfelt condolences to everyone affected.
The distressing images of destruction, and knowledge that this tragedy has taken many lives, will be affecting people across Tasmania, particularly those with a strong connection to the area.
Tasmana is home to a strong and proud Nepalese community and many of us work daily with Nepalese people who will be suffering greatly. We send them our love and strength.
Similarly, many other Tasmanians have connections to the people of this region through friendships, work and travel. We will be watching on with heavy hearts as the true extent of the impact is revealed.
