The Greens stand with nurses taking industrial action over the Liberal Government’s failure to deliver a fair offer for a new enterprise bargaining agreement.
HACSU and ANMF nurses have been forced to take industrial action over the Liberals’ failure to provide a new offer for wages and conditions, despite six months of negotiations. It’s both disappointing and frustrating for staff.
The Liberal Government needs to ensure there are safe staffing levels in Tasmania’s hospitals. When that doesn’t happen, it puts both nurses and those they care for at risk.
Nurses have been raising the alarm about safe staffing levels for years now. The Liberals need to start listening to the experience of nurses on the ground, and properly value the important work they do.
Without decent working conditions and safe staffing, this state will continue to struggle to attract nurses, as well as retain those we have.
The Greens encourage the Liberal Government to negotiate in good faith with Tasmania’s nurses to ensure they have a fair agreement for pay and conditions.
