The Tasmanian Parliament delivered a welcome show of unity today, supporting a Greens motion that backed pay parity for striking Saputo workers.
Saputo workers have been striking for nine weeks because of their employer’s refusal to address a huge pay disparity with their mainland counterparts. They’ve gone without pay for this entire time, but they have courageously kept fighting for what is right.
It was a privilege to meet with these workers this morning, and to voice their concerns in the parliament. The Greens fully support their push for equal pay, which is why we moved an urgent motion asking the House to get behind them.
It was wonderful to see MPs from right across the House of Assembly speak in support of striking Saputo workers, and for our motion to pass unanimously. This sends a clear message to Saputo – it’s time for them to finally start listening, and to give workers what they deserve.
