The Greens stand with ANMF workers who’ve taken their complaints over unreasonable workloads and minimum staffing levels to the Tasmanian Industrial Commission.
Nurses and midwives have been raising the alarm about staffing shortages and unreasonable workloads for months now. The Liberal Government has consistently failed to increase staffing numbers as promised.
It’s a breach of the Liberal Government’s legal obligations under their industrial agreement with the ANMF, and it’s just not good enough. Nurses and midwives should not have to work in unsafe conditions because emergency departments and wards are operating critically short-staffed.
Nurses and midwives continue to provide the best care possible despite difficult conditions that contribute to their own stress and burn out. Meanwhile, the Liberals consistently ignore workers’ concerns, putting staff, and their patients, at risk.
The Government must listen to the ANMF, cancel the efficiency dividend for health, stop the vacancy control measures, and take immediate new steps to address this staffing crisis.
It’s time for the Rockliff Government to finally listen to healthcare workers and take action to ensure legally required safe staffing levels in our hospitals.
