The Greens welcome the commencement of new rules allowing Tasmanians to access medicines prescribed interstate. Greens’ amendments mean people driving after using medicines dispensed interstate will have the same protections as people with locally dispensed prescriptions.
This reform improves Tasmanians’ access to vital medication. It means that Tasmanians who have had medicine prescribed interstate will now be able to have them dispensed locally.
Greens’ changes to the law closed a significant loophole, ensuring that those who have medication prescribed and dispensed interstate will not be prosecuted for driving with detectable levels in their system, so long as they are not impaired. This is particularly important for Tasmanians who access medical cannabis on the mainland.
The Greens will keep fighting for Tasmanians to have access to the medical treatments they need.
