It’s shocking the Minister for Planning has decided to grant major project status to the Kangaroo Bay hotel development, despite an active court case from the Clarence City Council and widespread community opposition.
Kangaroo Bay is prime public land on the Bellerive foreshore, and the public and Council have roundly rejected Chambroad Petrochemicals’ development disaster on this important site.
The Clarence City Council are currently in an active Supreme Court case exercising their right to buy back this land for public use.
A year ago, Chambroad Petrochemicals tried to subvert the Clarence Council’s planning process seeking major projects status, but were rejected. What has changed?
The Liberal government’s decision to grant major project status to this unwanted development rides roughshod over the Clarence City Council’s case before the Supreme Court and the community’s views.
Yet again, the Liberal Government is backing the interests of big corporates over the interests of the community.
