With the worst El Niño ever recorded intensifying and summer coming, it’s more critical than ever government prepares the community to be resilient in the face of extreme weather events and recover from climate impacts.
To make cuts to Resilience and Recovery Tasmania at this time isn’t just negligent, it’s downright dangerous. We’ve already seen what the northern hemisphere faced during their summer season. The threat of a repeat in our island state is as real as it is worrying.
Scientists warn the El Niño will likely bring hot, dry conditions to Tasmania, elevating bushfire risk. As an island community, we have to understand the risk and be prepared.
The Liberals’ underfunding of resilience has already left Tasmanians woefully unprepared for the climate crisis. It’s why we’re holding a climate preparedness forum at City Hall from 1-6pm tomorrow.

Tasmanians can’t afford cuts to Resilience and Recovery Tasmania. The Liberal Government must reverse or rule out any staffing reduction to this essential service ahead of what could be a very difficult summer for Tasmania.
