Today the Liberals really took things to a new nepo-level by appointing Matthew Groom to the Marinus Link board.
Matthew Groom – the failed former Energy Minister. You’ve got to be kidding.
In their press release hailing Matthew Groom as an “energy leader”, the current Energy Minister claimed Mr Groom’s appointment would “ensure strong leadership and governance of nation-critical energy infrastructure.”
Sorry… what? The most notable part of Matthew Groom’s career was being the architect of Tasmania’s 2016 energy crisis.
Under Mr Groom’s tenure, Tasmania’s hydro dams were run down in the midst of a drought, and we had to arrange for diesel generators to be shipped in to mitigate his mismanagement.
To top that off, he went on holiday when Tasmania lost all connection to the mainland, and the crisis began rapidly unfolding.
Most Tasmanians won’t have fond memories of being a month away from running out of power.
This is the person the current crop of Liberals think should be lauded for their legacy. It says it all really.
