Minister Ellis needs to come clean with Tasmanians, staff and students about what campuses, courses and staff will be cut in the $45 million slashing of TasTAFE.
Minister Ellis has not provided Parliament with information requested on cuts to TasTAFE. $45 million of cuts is incredibly significant, and the information that was tabled in Parliament doesn’t come anywhere near that figure.
It’s alarming that either the Minister won’t provide the information or doesn’t even know himself where the cuts are to occur on his watch.
We’ve known since last year that the Liberal Government were planning to cut arts and lab tech courses, yet this was listed in the tabled document. Where are the rest of the $45 million in cuts going to come from?
In recent weeks we’ve heard about the privatisation and leasing of TasTAFE buildings, but this wasn’t mentioned in the documents the Minister table. If information we know about hasn’t been provided in what the Minister’s tabled, what else is missing?
Tasmanians, staff and students deserve the truth around the future of TasTAFE. The Minister needs to be honest with Tasmanians about what campuses will be sold and what jobs and courses are going to be cut.
