Concerning data from the Master Builders Association (MBA) shows that the Rockliff government is asleep at the wheel on building the homes Tasmanians need in this housing crisis.
The Liberal Government promised to build 25,600 new homes by 2030 under the National Housing accord. Currently, projections are that they will fall over 11,000 homes short. It’s clear the Liberal Government needs to support a rise in building higher density homes, similar to that seen in the 1990s, when 5000 homes were built over five years.
We’re in a housing crisis, and people are struggling to find affordable housing. Housing is a human right – the Rockliff Government must do more to ensure Tasmanians have safe and secure housing.
While we acknowledge the MBA’s vested interests in this issue, the analysis demonstrates that it is clear that the Liberals need to realign their priorities in the upcoming State Budget.
