Foodbank’s 2026 Hunger Reports has found 37% of Tasmanians in regional areas and 31% in metropolitan areas are experiencing food insecurity. Community service organisations need increased funding as they struggle to keep up with the demand to help Tasmania’s hungry.

It’s so concerning to hear that 1 in 3 Tasmanian households are finding it hard to put food on the table. Food insecurity has become entrenched across the community, as the cost of living continues to rise.

I often hear from members of the community struggling to afford the basics, as they visit the food pantry at my office. Things are really tough for everyday Tasmanians.

Tasmanians are increasingly turning to community service organisations for help. But the organisations just don’t have the funding they need to keep up with demand. Some are even having to cut services due to persistent underfunding by the Government.

No Tasmanian should go hungry. The Liberal Government must urgently provide community service organisations with the funding they need to ensure Tasmanians can put food on the table.
