The Liberal and Labor parties have so far maintained a cloak of secrecy over the donations they’ve received during this election campaign, but it’s not too late for them to come clean and be transparent with Tasmanians.
Tasmanians deserve to know who is funding the election campaigns of politicians and political parties, but at the moment it’s only the Greens who are sharing this information with the community.
Despite voting for legislation that should have seen donations over $5000 reported transparently, both the Liberals and Labor are maintaining full secrecy over the donations they’ve received during this campaign – and over the past eight months.
Early voting has now opened, but it’s not too late for Jeremy Rockliff and Rebecca White to show some leadership and direct their parties to come clean. If they don’t, the obvious question is – what do they have to hide?
Until we have Liberal and Labor politicians show the source of their donations, Tasmanians will be watching their hundreds of TV ads and driving past their expensive billboards and wondering exactly who paid for them, and what they’re going to expect in return.
