In response to Greens’ questioning in Parliament, we now know the taxpayer has spent $120,494 on legal fees for Minister Madeleine Oglivie between January 2023 and November 11 2025.

Minister Ogilvie refused to provide answers about why such a large amount of public money has been spent on her lawyers. She says she’s precluded from giving more information, but hasn’t explained why.

Spending more than a hundred thousand dollars on legal fees in two years is extraordinary. If the Minister has incurred these legal costs for a legitimate reason, she should be willing to give Tasmanians more information about what it was for.

Why the secrecy? Is there something Minister Ogilvie is trying to hide?

This is taxpayer money, and the public deserves some basic transparency about what it’s being spent on. Minister Ogilvie needs to give Tasmanian taxpayers some answers.
