The Greens stand with HACSU members, who’ve rejected the Rockliff Government’s wage offer. It’s time for the Liberals to step up and engage in real negotiations with Tasmania’s health and community sector workers.
Tasmania’s health and community sector workers provide vital services to this state. They save lives every day, and work in tough conditions caring for Tasmanians in need. Conditions are only getting worse, thanks to the Liberal Government’s inaction.
Health and community sector workers deserve better pay and conditions. They should be able to negotiate a pay deal which lasts longer than a year and, importantly, conditions specific to the needs of their sector.
Tasmanian workers doing the same jobs as people on the mainland deserve the same pay. Pay disparity between Tasmania and the mainland is only widening while the Liberals delay negotiations.
Public workers have been put through the wringer, with the Liberals delaying and now postponing sector-specific negotiations. It’s no wonder they’re fed up. It’s time the Liberals came to the table and engaged in real negotiations with health and community sector workers.
