New footage obtained by the Greens under Right to Information confirms the devastating reality of greyhound racing for the dogs it exploits.
For years Tasracing has hidden footage of greyhound races where falls and injuries have occurred. In some cases the published videos of races edit around an incident, giving the false impression nothing had happened.
This has been part of a deliberate strategy to hide and misrepresent the truth about greyhound racing. Tasracing and the industry know if people saw what was really happening on racetracks, this cruel activity would lose its last remaining shred of social licence.
In the past, vision of on-track incidents has mostly come to light due to dedicated activists watching and recording live broadcasts of greyhound races. Now for the first time, the full footage of dozens of previously unpublished races over the past 18 months has been exposed after we obtained it under Right to Information.
These videos show numerous horrific and tragic incidents on Tasmanian greyhound racing tracks across 2025 and the start of 2026. It demonstrates the risk and harm to dogs in the industry goes far beyond what the industry would have the public believe.
We’ve obtained the footage of just over one year’s worth of races. The results show barely a week goes by without one of these beautiful, sensitive animals falling, being involved in a high-speed collision, or desperately hobbling over the finish line injured. It’s devastating – and it will continue to happen for as long as the industry exists.
The greyhound racing industry and its advocates downplay growing community about the welfare of racing dogs. Well, these videos show just how cynically dishonest they have been.
We know most Tasmanians already oppose greyhound racing because of the harm it causes to animals – all at taxpayers’ expense. This newly revealed footage is so confronting and so extensive that it will only strengthen the opposition to this outdated industry.
