Another horror night for racing dogs at Elwick last night.

Stewards’ reports confirm two greyhounds, Pop’s Girl and Elko, were seriously injured in race 10. Both have fractured bones and have been stood down for 90 days.

TasRacing and the industry need to understand greyhound welfare advocates will now be keeping a close eye on the fate of these two injured dogs.

On 8 January this year, a dog called Memphis Rains suffered similar injuries, was stood down for 90 days, then sent back to Victoria where her life was snuffed out in a vet clinic.

Last night at Elwick is yet more proof greyhound racing is not safe for dogs.

There have been more than 100 on-track injuries since the start of the year, and dogs like Memphis Rains have died as a result of this cruel, exploitative and mendicant industry.

It’s got to end. Every dog deserves a loving home and greyhounds are, in the end, just beautiful, gentle dogs.

They deserve better.
