The Greens were proud to stand with over a thousand Tasmanians at the Bob Brown Foundation’s Vote Earth Rally, to call on the next government to end native forest logging, clean up salmon farming, and take real climate action.
Lutruwita’s temperate native rainforests, coastlines and waterways are unique and globally significant. These special places are home to species found nowhere else on Earth.
Our island’s “clean and green” brand has become a hollow marketing ploy. Liberal and Labor politicians are ramping up the logging and burning of carbon-rich native forests in a climate and biodiversity crisis. They’re backing industrial salmon farming that pollutes beaches, slaughters wildlife, and destroys all that’s beautiful in our marine waters.
Native species like the Swift Parrot and the Maugean Skate are on the brink of extinction, and salmon corporations are now also threatening the critically endangered red handfish. Meanwhile, the major parties are happy for carbon emissions to continue, business as usual. We won’t let this continue.
The Greens have always stood for protecting Tassie’s environment, and we always will. With a new government and the Greens in balance of power, we will fight for real climate action, ending native forest logging and cleaning up the salmon farming industry.
