With the release of the Abetz “vision” document for Kunanyi it’s clear the fix is in, but the minister can only put so much lipstick on this pig of a review. Tasmanians overwhelmingly reject the notion of a cable car or development on the mountain, and an online survey filled with leading and open questions can hardly be considered a robust reflection of community sentiment.

The figures in the vision statement in no way correlate with the overwhelming opposition demonstrated in the public submissions and the results of the survey have not been presented to us as raw data. An examination of the submissions shows unequivocal support for protecting the environment of Kunanyi and keeping the mountain cable car free.

It is completely disingenuous of the government to present the results of a non-quantative survey as an accurate representation of public opinion and disregard 528 individual submissions that have provided clear and compelling arguments.

Despite this it is clear, even from the survey results that this $600,000 trumped up review has done nothing but confirm what we already know – Tasmanians love the mountain, want it protected from the Liberals plans to develop it and and will always stand up for it.
