The Tasmanian Greens extend our gratitude to Ali Alishah for his dedication to protecting this island’s forests, and recognise the significant personal sacrifices he has made.
Ali was released today after spending three months in prison – a sentence he received simply for peacefully standing up for nature and the climate. His courage and commitment to his values are a powerful example to us all.
The Liberals can pass anti-protest laws, they can crack down on forest activism, and they can put people in jail. However it will all be in vain, because for as long as they continue to destroy biodiverse forests, people like Ali will be there standing up for what is right.
The many brave Tasmanians who are out there defending our forests will never give up. And they will continue their fight with the knowledge that a clear majority of Tasmanians don’t support native forest destruction, and that continuing this practice is a shocking disservice to future generations.
The Greens are proud to support forest protesters, and we will continue to take up the fight for Tasmania’s unique environment in parliament.
