The infighting within the Tasmanian Labor Party on forests beggars belief in a time of climate crisis.*
When science tells us we need to be protecting carbon stores and intact forests, we have Labor and Liberal politicians in a race to the bottom. It’s climate madness.
We should be ending native forest logging, not removing any possible barrier to broadscale habitat destruction.
Labor’s anti-environment group was started in 2019, with Labor MP Jen Butler as co-convenor. Ms Butler called the group “well-researched and articulate”.**
There’s nothing well-researched about pushing anti-science logging and burning, and desperately trying to remove any obstacle.
Where do Labor stand on protecting forests? Will they be following the Liberals down the path of climate denial and extinctions?
At the bare minimum, Labor need to tell Tasmanians how they would vote on the Liberals’ plan to log 40,000ha of high conservation Future Reserve forests.
