Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for ENERGY and RENEWABLES, Mr DUIGAN
I thank the minister for his answer. At one level it’s reassuring to hear him say he expects the feedstock to supply up to 2 million tonnes of dry wood fibre to come from plantations. Do you accept that there is a potential supply issue and that there may not be enough carbon to put into the furnace from plantations? Can you confirm that just now you did not rule out that native forest chips may also be fed into that furnace, which puts a huge question mark over the claim that it would be a green fuel facility?
ANSWER
Mr President, certainly, my understanding of my conversations with HIF have always been around a certified plantation‑grown feedstock.
