Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for ENERGY and RENEWABLES, Mr DUIGAN
One last clarification: when you say a certified plantation product, are you saying that that plantation product would have Forest Stewardship Council certification?
ANSWER
Mr President, I can say it would certainly have PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certification.
Ms O’Connor – You’re discrediting –
Mr DUIGAN – Well, no, because you can go to Bunnings and buy FSC Merbau. I would point to the fact that that’s not doing a lot for the accreditation standard there. This will be, as the company is on the record as saying repeatedly, a plantation feedstock. They are aiming to make green fuels in Tasmania and they would have their eye on what their customers expect in that space.
