You just described the areas that are going to be logged as regrowth forests. They were actually set aside under the Tasmanian Forest Agreement because of their high conservation value. I believe you might misunderstand the intention of the logging.
As minister responsible for climate change, you would be developing a climate change action plan for Tasmania. When I was minister for climate change – when we had a minister for climate change – we incorporated a reduction in native forest logging as part of that plan. Are you saying that as minister responsible for climate change you will have no influence -none at all – on the direction of native forest logging in Tasmania?
ANSWER
Mr President, in the context of the 39,000 hectares of future production forest land that you reference, as minister for Parks, I have nothing in front of me at the moment. As I have said in my previous answer, as the minister for the area of climate change, I am aware of the accounting mechanism and the role that land use plays in that mechanism.
