Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for EDUCATION, CHILDREN and YOUTH, Ms PALMER

Thank you, minister, for your answer and your obvious heart for this area. Information provided by the Department for Education, Children and Young People doesn’t currently maintain a central register of sites which currently do not meet current disability code compliance, and I know this is a matter that you and I’ve discussed before, and you’ve stated a desire to fix this. What steps have been taken to implement this important element to the school asset management program to ensure children with disabilities can access the same learning opportunities as other students?

ANSWER

I appreciate your advocacy in this space. As you know, it’s a pretty important part of the work that I do. We want our schools to be inclusive right across the board. What I have done since you and I last discussed is that I have asked DECYP to look at collecting this information so that we have a base to start from so that we can work from there. They are in the process of doing that and I’m very happy to continue to engage with you on that matter, thank you.
