Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for EDUCATION, Ms PALMER

Following on from the Premier’s unfortunate intervention in the end-of-the-year celebrations of a northern school, I ask the minister whether the department has been instructed or asked to develop any policy around end-of-year or Christmas celebrations – or whether schools would be required to include Christmas in the naming of end-of-year events? Also, does the government have any plans to try to direct school communities or school associations as separate statutory bodies on the naming and content of events they organise or whether any direction applies only to schools, if that direction exists?

ANSWER

Thank you very much, Mr President. There certainly has been no instruction for me as Minister for Education –

Ms O’CONNOR – From the department?

Ms PALMER – and I’m certainly not aware of anything from the department. I’m happy to ask that question, but certainly not aware of anything.

Ms O’Connor – Thank you.
