Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS, Mr DUIGAN

That was not the question, but you answered the question through your non‑answer. The answer to the question is that you have received no advice from Parks or anyone else in your agency about the potential impact on the Ninepin Point Marine Reserve of the salmon mass mortality event. Can I implore you as Parks minister to take this up with Parks? You know as well as I do that the EPA will not have the resources or time to investigate the impact on the marine reserve.

Will you take this up with your advisers in Parks and ask them to have a good look at what is happening inside the Ninepin Point Marine Reserve, given the events of the past two or three weeks?

ANSWER

Mr President, I have nothing further to add.

Ms O’Connor – Pathetic.

Mr DUIGAN – I am not sure that that characterisation is a reasonable thing in this place. We all seek to have a safe workplace and all those sorts of things.

Ms O’Connor – You feel unsafe?

Mr PRESIDENT – Order, order. I will ask people to be careful with their interjections across the Chamber because we have a tradition of respecting other members in this Chamber regardless of our opinions. Can we keep it nice and keep our questions to questions, please.

Ms O’CONNOR – Just a point of order on your ruling, Mr President, which I respect completely. If the minister gave more honest and open answers and did not treat questions, particularly that come from me, with a degree of contempt and walk back to his chair, as he does, and not answer them, perhaps interjections would be less likely.

Mr PRESIDENT – I will caution all members to be respectful to each other. That is where I want to leave that.
