Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS and HERITAGE, Mr DUIGAN

My question is to the minister for Parks. Minister, in recent weeks I’ve asked you on behalf of the Wilson family about the status of the lease on the place that’s been in their family for generations at Melaleuca. As you’d be aware, the orange-bellied parrots are about to start arriving, towards the end of September. The Wilsons haven’t heard from Parks, they haven’t received an update, and in the Greens’ view, their treatment has been less than respectful. If you could provide an update to the House about that longstanding lease, the outcome of the negotiations, and some sort of timeline for when the Wilsons might hear from Parks, that would be good.

ANSWER

I will take on notice providing an update. I believe the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service have been dealing with the granddaughter of the Wilsons, so I understand some conversations are happening, but we will take on notice and come back to you with –

Ms O’Connor – Today?

Mr DUIGAN – some information. Look, I don’t know about today.

Mr PRESIDENT – We can’t have two on their feet.

Mr DUIGAN – No. I’m on my feet.

Ms O’Connor – Well, we’re about to be away for six weeks.

Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS and HERITAGE, Mr DUIGAN

I ask the minister that, because the information would be available to you. Parks will have that information. It’s not yet 3 p.m. If you could please bring that information, which will be readily available with a text or an email from your advisers to Parks, to be brought before the House before we rise for some six weeks.

ANSWER

I’m very happy to work with you, member for Hobart, to get you the information you seek. We will endeavour to put that in train.
