The George Town Council has approved Firmus’ second Tasmanian AI factory against growing community concerns. 

With the George Town Council set to make a decision on Firmus’ proposed development at Bell Bay next week, the Liberals must publicly release energy and water arrangements.

We welcome the establishment of an essential inquiry into AI and data centres in Tasmania, following months of Greens’ advocacy. 

The Greens held a public meeting in Hobart to discuss the community’s concerns over AI and data centres in Tasmania. 

150 people have attended a Greens’ community forum in the north of the state, expressing their concerns over the unregulated construction of AI data centres in Tasmania. 

Community concerns about the unregulated expansion of AI data centres is evidenced by the thousands of signatories on a new Parliamentary petition calling for a moratorium. 

It’s like the Liberals asked AI about data centre construction in Tasmania and totally forgot to check with the real community!

The Greens plan to move for an inquiry into AI and data facilities in Tasmania, as community concern over their impact amidst the absence of regulation grows.
