About Cassy

Cassy O’Connor is the first Tasmanian Green elected to the Legislative Council.

A former journalist, Cassy was part of the successful community campaign to save Ralphs Bay at Lauderdale from a Gold-Coast style canal estate development.

In 2008, she was elected to the Tasmanian Parliament as the Member for Denison on countback following Peg Putt’s resignation.

During the Labor Green government from 2010-14, Cassy was the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Climate Change, Community Development and Human Services. Cassy was the Leader of the Greens from 2015 to 2023, when she resigned to contest the Legislative Council seat of Hobart.

Cassy loves Lutruwita / Tasmania and its people with all her green heart.
