This election is a huge opportunity to stop the new Hobart stadium, and the best way to do that is to vote Green.
Most Tasmanians don’t want the stadium because it’s them who will foot the bill. After two huge budget blowouts, the project already has a billion-dollar price tag. With its massive construction problems, the cost will keep going up.
While Liberal and Labor politicians support the new stadium in Hobart, the Greens have consistently fought against it since day one. We have spent more than three years doing everything we can to stop the project, because we know this should not be the priority when the state has a health and housing crisis and the budget is in disrepair.
The stadium is closer than ever to falling over, and this election is an opportunity to put a stop to it once and for all. The Greens have been the strongest voice against the stadium since the beginning, so voting Green is the best way to send a strong message that this project should not go ahead.
The more Greens that are elected to this Parliament, the stronger the message will be against the stadium. Whatever the result, our commitment to the Tasmanian people is that we will do whatever we can to stop the project.
We will fight to make sure the major parties to focus on the real priorities for Tasmania – protections for nature, real climate action, and investment in homes, health and cost of living relief.
Tasmania deserves an AFL team, but we don’t deserve to be forced into building a new billion-dollar stadium in Hobart. We don’t need it, we can’t afford it, and Tasmanians don’t want it.
