Community members packed out a Greens’ forum in Rosny opposing the Liberals’ Macquarie Point stadium. The Pembroke community has a powerful opportunity to exercise their vote next weekend, and people were keen to voice their opposition to a dodgy, costly stadium they don’t want.
Community members talked with Dr Rosalie Woodruff MP, Cassy O’Connor MLC, Carly Allen (Greens’ candidate for Pembroke), and Roland Browne (Our Place Community Spokesperson) about their concerns around the proposed stadium.
Pembroke residents are outraged the Liberals have broken their promise to cap public spending on the stadium at $375 million. The Liberals’ stadium would cost well over a billion-dollars – money from taxpayers that people continue to tell us should be spent on housing and health services.
Attendees were especially incensed the Liberals, supported by Labor, will bypass the independent planning process and try and push a stadium approval through Parliament with special legislation.
Overwhelmingly, people want their members of Parliament to vote against this corrupted process. They demand the Premier renegotiate his bad deal with the AFL, so the teams Tasmanians deserve are no longer tied to a dodgy stadium.
