The Minister for Health needs to listen to the ANMF and recognise the severity of the staffing crisis at the Launceston General Hospital.
After a decade of Liberal neglect, chronic understaffing has become a critical issue across the entire health system. But the current situation at the LGH is particularly dire.
The ANMF have spent months highlighting the unsafe and untenable situation at the hospital. Their latest snapshot shows empty rosters for a range of critically important roles, with a reduced crew of staff left to deal with an overcrowded ED.
The Liberals have so far refused to recognise just how serious the crisis at the LGH is. That needs to change, and it needs to change immediately.
There is much more the government can be doing to attract health staff to Launceston, and to keep them here. This situation won’t be fixed overnight, but we need the Minister to commit to urgent and ambitious action.
