The Rockliff Government’s claims of a health staff recruitment blitz don’t stack up. The evidence is clear – staff vacancies in the hundreds, recruitment processes on go slow, and freezes on essential staff hires.
The ANMF are right to call out the mismatch between the government’s words and actions. ANMF data and reports match information the Greens are hearing from within the health system about recruitment blockages.
The government is quick to boast about the recruitment advertising they’re running on the mainland, but here in Tassie they’re actively working against recruitment by freezing essential staff hires. It’s outrageous.
The vacancy figures obtained by the ANMF highlight the desperate staffing situation within our hospitals. For the government to try to cover up the real situation across our health service is a betrayal of staff who work hard to care for Tasmanians, as well as the people of Tasmania who deserve to get the care they need when they need it.
The Tasmanian Greens support the ANMF in their action calling for the Government to be transparent about staffing in hospitals and remove restrictive protocols that leave wards understaffed, placing patients at risk.
We strongly urge the Government to do all they can to speed up recruitment processes and ensure health care staff positions are filled as quickly as possible.
The Rockliff Government must prioritise the health of Tasmanians before a stadium, and ensure our health system is staffed to the level needed for safe, timely care
