The Rockliff Government needs to prioritise permanent fixes for the heat situation at the Launceston General Hospital.
What we’ve seen happening again at the LGH over the past few days is unsafe, unfair, and unacceptable. What’s worse is the lack of air conditioning has been a known and growing issue for years, without any proper response from government.
It’s plainly obvious the attempts at Band-Aid solutions haven’t come close to what is needed. It is not OK for patients and staff to be subjected to extreme heat in the hospital environment. That’s why we need to bring forward action that will permanently resolve this issue.
We acknowledge there will be challenges with undertaking this work, but doing this in a planned way is far better than the alternative. With summers getting hotter and hotter due to climate change, if we don’t act to fix this properly now, we risk having parts of the hospital unusable during summer.
