Madeleine Ogilvie should resign from her position as Minister of the Crown.
On 17 November 2025, Greens MLC Cassy O’Connor asked Minister Ogilvie if she had been subject or party to any Supreme Court matters in the previous 18 months. The Minister said no.
Months later, today in Parliament the Minister conceded that answer was not true. She admitted she had in fact been party to such a Supreme Court matter.
In trying to save her skin, in her answer today the Minister said she had provided a “clarification” to Parliament on 20 November. Unfortunately for the Minister, the existence of this “clarification” only further confirms how dishonest she has been.
The fact is, the “clarification” the Minister provided to the Parliament did nothing at all to correct the entirely false statement she had made. Instead, the Minister knowingly allowed her false answer to stand on the Parliamentary record, and even further implied the truth of it.
That is intentionally misleading Parliament.
Of course, Minister Ogilvie has had subsequent opportunities to correct this matter too. Last week the Greens asked her about it twice, and she refused to answer. It was only today after we had pursued the matter through correspondence to her, and further questioning, that she admitted the truth.
This is a clear-cut case of a Minister intentionally misleading Parliament. As the Ministerial Code of Conduct says, that means the Minister should resign. And if she won’t, Jeremy Rockliff should sack her.
