| Minister Madeleine Ogilvie owes Tasmanians an explanation. Why has she had $120,000 in legal fees paid for by taxpayers?
Through extensive Greens questioning in Budget Estimates and Parliament late last year, we uncovered that Minister Ogilvie had these huge legal bills. But the Minister hasn’t offered any explanation about the matter. It’s good to see Labor finally recognise the significant transparency issue the Greens have identified, and we hope they will continue to scrutinise this matter and question other Ministers. As we said in early December, spending more than a hundred thousand dollars on legal fees in two years is extraordinary. If the Minister has incurred these legal costs for a legitimate reason, she should be willing to give Tasmanians more information about what it was for. Why is Minister Ogilvie being so secretive? What is she trying to hide? This is public money. The public has a right to transparency about why it’s being used to pay for private lawyers for a Minister. If Minister Ogilvie won’t answer questions, all MPs from across the Parliament should be prepared to hold her accountable. |
