The Tasmanian Greens have reimagined the carparks outside Parliament House, converting them into a parklet to show the opportunity we have to make out cities better places to live.
Our Parliament House Parklet marks World Park(ing) Day, a global event which advocates for more liveable public spaces and safer, greener streets by repurposing existing carparks into mini parks and social spaces.
In Parliament House’s carpark we showed what our public city scapes could look like if we prioritised people over cars, creating a parklet complete with refreshments, books, music, poetry and games.
We took the opportunity to think a little differently, allowing these parking spaces to be redesigned for the benefit of the community. Imagine if we took a different approach to urban planning – Tasmanians could travel safely on bike paths to meet friends and family under the shade of native trees, truly living in their cities.
Liveable cities create healthier, happier and more connected communities. It’s time the Liberal Government takes a different approach to urban planning that prioritises people and creates liveable, green cities.
