Tasmanian salmon farming companies Tassal and Petuna made hundreds of millions in the 2022-23 financial year, but ATO data reveal they paid no income tax!

It’s shocking salmon farming companies are paying no tax at all. These companies make massive profits from operating in Tasmanian public waters, while dumping pollution into our marine environment and killing off native species.

It’s terrible that in a cost of living crisis, struggling Tasmanians are paying more tax than mega international corporations who make hundreds of millions of dollars in profit.

The Maugean skate is on the brink of extinction at the hands of these aquaculture companies in Macquarie Harbour, with toxic fish waste removing the oxygen of life from the Harbour’s bottom waters.

Salmon farming companies must start paying their fair share to the people of Australia through income tax, and to Tasmanians for their use of public waters. It’s time for the Liberal Government to increase the rents and licence fees for aquaculture companies.
