The Tasmanian Greens offer our strong support and solidarity for the victim-survivors of family violence, and honour those who lost their lives, ahead of today’s national cabinet meeting and tonight’s candlelight vigils.
The stories from victim-survivors and the voices of advocates have resonated loudly across the nation, and have helped shine a spotlight on an issue that has too often been ignored. Their strength and courage has helped create a major opportunity for real change.
Violence against women is an epidemic and a national emergency. We need all levels of government to recognise these basic facts, and to work together to drive a proper response.
This is an issue that transcends politics, and – as we always have – the Greens stand ready to work with all parties and MPs to drive reform.
Enough is enough – we need big changes and we need them now.
