What has Minister Madeleine Ogilvie got to hide?
Under questions from the Greens in Budget Estimates, Minister Ogilvie admitted she’d had legal fees covered by taxpayer funds. But in Parliament today she refused to answer questions about how much public money has been spent on her lawyers, or why.
If the Minister had incurred these legal costs for a legitimate reason, she would surely be willing to provide the details about the public money that’s been spent on her. Instead, she provided no explanation.
Minister Ogilvie’s refusal to explain why she’s charging taxpayers for an unknown amount in her legal bills raises serious questions. What reason could there be for the Minister to withhold this information, other than because she has something to hide?
This is public money. The public has a right to know how it is being used.
