The Liberal Government has doubled down on discrediting its own experts, with the Premier saying in Parliament that he has no faith in the Planning Commission’s assessment of the Mac Point stadium. In reality, the stadium is fully cooked, but half-baked.
Premier Rockliff is doing anything he can to get his pet project off the ground. He’s said it himself. He’s been using concocted legal advice to try to undermine the Planning Commission and is now saying he has no faith in its assessment.
Let’s not forget that the Planning Commission’s PoSS process was the planning assessment pathway that the Liberals chose to take. The Premier was 100% behind it, until it released a report that highlights a litany of seemingly insurmountable issues.
Whatever the Liberals’ PR strategy, it won’t fix the myriad failures with this stadium.
Contaminated fill material and groundwater that could risk the health of construction workers, future site users, and of the Derwent River. A design that will create a flood risk for nearby areas.
A layout that will be unsafe for stadium goers and inaccessible to ambulances and police in an emergency evacuation. The list goes on.
There’s numerous material risks of this poorly designed, poorly planned stadium that the Liberal-Labor coalition want Parliament to rubber stamp. Instead of responding to the major problems identified with the stadium, the Premier is just crossing his fingers and hoping for the best.
