Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS and ENVIROMENT, Mr DUIGAN
The lease that Wild Drake has over Halls Island expires in 12 days. You just indicated that there was a possibility that as minister you might extend the lease. Which entity would you extend it with, given that Wild Drake has now wound up as a company? Will you do the right thing and make sure that lease is not renewed? This is not asking you to speculate or give a running commentary; it is a yes or no answer. We have a bankrupt entity and a lease that expires in 12 days, and you are the minister with the power. What are you going to do about it?
ANSWER
Mr President, I thank the member for the question. As of yesterday, and as far as I am aware today, Wild Drake Pty Ltd is a duly registered company on the ASIC site. An application to wind up a company does not mean that the company has been wound up. The proponent has advised that a decision on whether the company is in liquidation has not been determined. Again, as stated yesterday, all lease and licence payments are up to date, so I will not be dealing with any hypotheticals. The lease is current. I will continue to take advice from the department accordingly and make a decision at the appropriate time.
