Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS, Mr DUIGAN
In Estimates this year in the other place, my colleague, Ms Badger asked you about works on the foreshore and dunes at Lewisham. In December of 2023, you wrote to the Lewisham community and committed to works to improve the safety of their foreshore and dunes.
But one Sunday afternoon, your departmental secretary, subsequent to that, went down there and overthrew your commitment to the community and embarked on a new plan for which works commenced on 18 August this year. Mr Jacobi went on ABC Radio on the 20 August and stated an agreement had been made for the Lewisham Foreshore Management Association to pay for a new rock wall, if they want one. But your office has received a letter from the Lewisham Foreshore Management Association pointing out that these are false claims or perhaps that Mr Jacobi was mistaken. There was no agreement for the community to wholly pay for the wall and there was never any consultation on Mr Jacobi’s reversal of your December 2023 decision as was claimed in Estimates.
Minister, will you take this opportunity today to provide truth and clarity to the people of Lewisham?
ANSWER
Mr President, I will seek some advice on this one.
I have just been informed by my office that we received a copy of that letter to our office this morning. It contains a number of assertions that we will work through. I am not in a position to make further comment on that letter at this time.
