Metro Tasmania – Project Funding

Mr BAYLEY - My question is to the Chair, or perhaps the CEO, but the annual report, if I do the maths, shows $3.1 million being held in cash for strategic projects. We have spoken about the zero-emissions bus trial and then there is the intelligent transport systems project. How much of the $3.1 million is for each of those projects? How much for the buses? How much for the IT? Is that enough money for the trial to determine an outcome that can inform an investment decision on whether to go forward? Is there enough money to run a full conclusive trial? Secondly, the costs are going up across the board. Is the balance of the funding that's being held in cash reserves provided by Government - as I understand or read it in the annual report - is that enough to fully complete the critical system upgrade with regards to the intelligent transport systems project?

Mr FERGUSON - I will invite the Chair to respond further. I will let you know the funding toward the trial is provided over the forward Estimates to the business out of the Department of State Growth.

Mr BAYLEY - It is not held in the cash in the annual report, got it.

Mr GARDNER - In response to your question, yes, it is adequate. In terms of the trials we have now fixed in those costs. We are now procuring buses, chargers, refuelers and all of that is happening at the moment. We develop the budget and the Government was good enough to support our request for funding on this. We have been working with Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania on getting that right. On the intelligent transport systems, again we built up budget which includes a wide range of initiatives and, yes, we're comfortable there is adequate funding for that.

Mr FERGUSON - Thank you.
