Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS, Mr DUIGAN

Can you confirm that the owner of Silver Ridge Retreat approached the government about potential revocation of that 3.5 hectares, I believe it is, from the Mount Roland Regional Reserve? That this revocation was actually made at the request of the owner of the Silver Ridge Retreat, and that they are being given the opportunity to buy a parcel of former reserve land at the foothills of Mount Roland that no‑one else is? Apart from the wrong of revoking part of a reserve, can you confirm that the owner of Silver Ridge Retreat requested this revocation?

ANSWER

Mr President, as I am advised and as I mentioned, this apparently has been an ongoing conversation since the 1990s.

Ms O’Connor – Just suddenly now there is a revocation.

Mr DUIGAN – Here we are. Yes.

Ms O’Connor – There was no approach –

Mr DUIGAN – In terms of the land, if members are interested to have a look on Google Earth or other such devices, you will see that it is a piece of land that is on the other side of the road. It does not fit very well in the reserve. You can see why it would be seen as an anomaly. It is currently being used by the owners of Silver Ridge Retreat and apparently this is a conversation that has been happening over decades also.

Ms O’Connor – So, the answer is yes; you were approached by the owner to revoke part of the reserve.
